Reds:
# 1 The Gnome Knows 2012

A Perfect Everyday Red From France

We’re always looking for value wines that display clean and ripe fruit flavors along with soft tannins that are perfect “house wines” to pop and pour anytime. The latest and hottest bargain to come in is The Gnome Knows Grenache from the south of France.

The The Gnome Knows Grenache comes from selected vineyards in the Languedoc region in the south of France not too far from the Southern Rhone Valley where Grenache is the key grape varietal that makes up Cotes du Rhone and Chateauneuf du Pape.

Winemaker's Notes:

Deep, rich and concentrated with the Grenache grape showcasing its plum and lavender nose. The flavors are abundant with black cherries Asian spice and red fruits. A good finish with a touch of vanilla and nutmeg. Perfect with choice cuts of beef on the grill.

#2 Two Vines 2009

Columbia Crest Two Vines Cabernet Sauvignon 750ML
Sku: 25423

Raised in Mendoza, Argentina, Muñoz Oca came under the tutelage of his grandfather, cellar master at Bodegas Toso winery, at a young age. The older man instilled in him a love and respect for wine, as well as for his family’s Spanish culture, that was to become the root of a lifelong passion for winemaking. He picked his first grapes at the age of eight, later took an after-school job in a wine cellar, and spent his vacations helping his grandfather with harvest.

Though Muñoz Oca planned to further his experience with an internship at a California winery, in 2001 a meeting with the legendary Dr. Robert Wample, then a top viticulturalist at Washington State University convinced him to head further north to Washington. In the summer of 2001, he began interning with the viticulture team at Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, and in 2003 began working at Columbia Crest. With time out for stints at Bleasdale Vineyards in Australia and Bordeaux’s Chateau Puy Guilhem, he’s been at Columbia Crest ever since.

#3 Lornano Chianti Classico 2009
Tasting Note
This is a very good value in maturing, authentic Chianti that has good density. Expect ripe aromas and flavours of sundried tomato, leather and herbs, with a touch of amaro and spice. This is mid-weight, fairly dense and firm with some tannic grit; but ready for drinking now or over the next three years. Very good value. Score - 90. (David Lawrason, winealign.com, May 2013)

Whites:
#1 2010 Vina Baccana Pino Grigio
#2 2011 Broglia Gavi
If Barolo and Barbaresco are Italy's answer to claret, then Gavi di Gavi is its reply to Chablis. Like the aforementioned Italian reds, it's from Piedmont in the north of Italy, and is made from Cortese, an indigenous variety that produces delicate herbaceous and apple scented whites. For many of Italy's classic wines, the best are from the heart of the region - in this case Gavi di Gavi. The grapes are from a top quality enclave surrounding the town itself, where vines have been grown since AD 971. Villa Broglia is one of the leading cellars in the region, having supplied wine to Pope John Paul II, as well as for banquets at several Italian embassies.Enjoy on its own or with fish, ravioli with sage butter or a courgette frittata.
#3 Principe Strozzi 2012

Laithwaites Wine Principe Strozzi Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2012

“A wonderful Vernaccia,” said Wine Spectator of a past vintage of this gem, from the aristocratic Strozzi family’s 1,000 year old cellar. Legendary winemaker Franco Bernabei has done it again, with this citrus-kissed 2012.
