Item Description

Collection of nine of Elbert Hubbard's "Little Journeys". Collection consistes of five paperback Roycrofter editions: Theodore Parker (1907), James Oliver (1909), Erasmus (1908), Thorwadsen (1902) and Richard Cobden (1907). These are done in the customary fashion of the Roycrofters, with decorative elements, some pictures and quality paper. Copies originally sold for ten cents, so that anyone could afford them and thus learn about the people Elbert Hubbard believed it was important to know about. These editions are in good shape overall. there is some foxing and an occasional tatter. Covers on Thorwaldsen and Erasmus are detached. Everything is readable. Wonderful ads for Roycrofter products that would sell for a mint today. This collection also includes four of Hubbard's Little Journeys that were printed by G.P. Putnam's Sons: Jane Austen (1897), Emerson (1896), Daniel Webster (1898) and Lowell (1896). These seem more like "leaflets" and originally sold for five cents. They are printed on what appears to be good-quality paper. Webster's front cover is detatched. Light foxing. Everything is readable.
