Item Description

The Purple Loosestrife so often mentioned in Thoreau’s journals, painted by the midcentury artist George Haraden, who lived nearby. 16 x 20 oil on canvas, unframed. The scene, which is typical of Concord, is of a summer meadow shaded by a stand of Hemlock, with the loosestrife rampant in the lowland.
