Item Description
Framed "mini-quilt" created from postage stamps by artist Anna Kuchel Rabinowitz. 8 x 10 inches. The artist lives and works in NYC, and although she considers herself primarily a sculptor (she currently has public art projects on display in Riverside Park South and Van Cortlandt Park), she is currently exploring her long-time love of traditional needlework using non-traditional materials. She has created a series of small quilts, of which "Looking for Life in the Universe" is one, pieced from cancelled postage stamps dating from 1910 to the present. She is fascinated by the images of what events and issues societies choose to commemorate. Stamps celebrate the history of our lives, and remind us how much has changed in the past 100 years. Her work has been exhibited at the Art Students League of New York, the Pen and Brush, the Gladstone Hotel (Toronto), the Cedarhurst Biennial Sculpture Competition and Marquette Show (IL), and the Village Temple (NY).
