About Camp Vega:

Camp Vega is an overnight summer camp for girls on Echo Lake in Maine.  Vega was founded in 1936 as an all girls residential summer camp.  Over the past 76 years, Vega has flourished while preserving its cherished camp traditions.  Our 300 acres of pristine forest and mile of majestic lakefront have been a summer home to generations of campers. Vega’s truly beautiful setting with unrivaled facilities is the backdrop for our rich traditions and nurturing environment.

We appreciate that every child’s interests are different and range from those who want focused athletic challenges, to those who are eager to play and learn.  Vega offers many activities, and we encourage each camper and her parents to work with us to select the best schedule for her.  Vega’s program is the perfect balance of structure and choice, and safety and fun.

The Vega community promotes friendship, skill development, kindness, gratitude, and connection to each other and to nearly 80 years of tradition.

Activities

ACTIVITIES OVERVIEW

Camp Vega’s activity program is the perfect balance of safety, fun, structure, and choice.

Vega offers an array of athletic programs, waterfront activities, onsite equestrian instruction, gymnastics, and studio and performing arts.  Whatever your daughter’s interests or strengths may be, she will fall in love with the activities at Vega.  Our instructors and facilities are top notch.  Camp is all about trying new things and improving your daughter’s skills in both new activities and those she already enjoys.

HOW OUR PROGRAM WORKS FOR OUR CAMPERS IN GRADES 2-5

At Vega you will have so many activities to choose from, as well as those in which all Vega Campers participate.  We have talented instructors who want you to be successful in any activity you choose.  Before you get to camp, you and your parents will already have chosen most of your activities.  So, you will know what your schedule is before you arrive and you will start having fun right away!

You will have both swimming and landsports as part of your daily schedule Monday through Saturday with your entire age-group, and the rest of your program is chosen by you.  You will be grouped within your age group and will have lots of opportunities to have fun playing games and to develop so many new skills.

HOW OUR PROGRAM WORKS FOR OUR CAMPERS IN GRADES 6-9

Once you have completed the 6th grade, you will be able to choose your entire program! One of your options is to specialize in one or two particular areas and to do them much of the day.  Most girls do like to do a bit of everything.  No matter what you choose to do, you will be busy all day long having the time of your life!

SELECTING ACTIVITIES

We spend time with you and your daughter before and during camp to ensure her  schedule is just the way she wants it.  She will be participating in fun activities that she is interested in within a structured and safe environment.

Girls can change their schedule at the beginning of camp and half-way through camp on Visiting Weekend.  If there is a particular activity that is important to you, families can let us know ahead of time for extra practice, games and/or private instruction.

There is no better way to introduce the magic of Vega and the girls overnight summer camp experience than with the words of our campers:

“Vega is special to me because it makes me feel like I can do anything.  Nothing can ever compare to Vega. It is my summer home because you get so close to everybody, that they feel like your family. It is so safe and cozy, that you feel at home.” – Dara, Vega camper, age 12

“Vega is special beacuse it is a great summer home filled with laughter and loving friends. Last year, was my first year and it was awesome I met the most amazing friends.” - Elle, Vega camper, age 10

“I love Camp Vega because of the friendly atmosphere! When I arrive at camp Linda, Kyle, Emily, the counselors, and my camp friends greet me very warmly and feel as though I am at home throughout the summer. Vega is truly my summer home!” – Tess, Vega camper, age 13

We consistently hear from our campers, alumnae and parents that Vega is the one place where girls feel they can truly be themselves.  Vega will become your daughter’s summer home – a place where she will be supported and loved by a tight-knit community with nearly 80 years of tradition, be able to take risks and try new things in a safe environment, learn the importance of kindness and working as a team, practice gratitude, and perhaps most importantly, be herself.  These are just a few of the reasons why over 95% of girls come back year after year to the shores of beautiful Echo Lake.
