Item Description

We are thrilled to offer our bidders half a case of the incredible EONIAN Red Blend this year, huge thanks to owners (and wonderful people) Wayne Donaldson and Sue Furdek!

This is a wine that symbolizes the love of two countries: Australia and the U.S. It is a blend of 80% Shiraz (or Syrah as it’s known here) and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Syrah contributes plush, rich flavors of concentrated blueberry and blackberry fruit with a classic white pepper spice. The Cabernet adds a muscular tension to the blend with layers of espresso bean, dark chocolate, clove, and cedar. Together, they create a distinctive red blend that can be enjoyed now or savored in years to come.

THE VINEYARDS:
The Syrah comes from a spectacular vineyard known as “Tip Top” that sits 1,800 feet above sea level in the eastern mountains of Napa Valley and has sweeping views of the valley below. It is planted on low yielding Sobrante series soils on steep terraces and is farmed sustainably. The original vineyard can be traced back to the 1890’s but was renovated in the 1970s by current owners Jay and Pam Heminway. It’s a steep climb to the vineyard, even in a 4-wheel drive vehicle. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes came from two vineyards; one located in the Oak Knoll district in the western benchland and the other located in the Rutherford district on Skellenger Lane.

THE PEOPLE:
EONIAN Wines was founded by the husband and wife team of Australian-born winemaker Wayne Donaldson and California girl Sue Furdek. Both have long been involved in the wine industry and continue to work making wine and promoting wine for other great wine brands and projects. But it was time to do something personal. They chose EONIAN, which embodies the ageless themes of love, spiritual growth, and the enduring journey that connects them. These values are captured on the label with the Triskele, an ancient Celtic symbol also called the spiral of life which represents continuous movement forward.

We warmly thank Wayne and Sue for this amazing contribution to our auction, and the inspiration you bring to all who know you!
