Item Description
Rippleffect is a non-profit youth and community development organization operating outdoor adventure programming out of Portland, Maine. Rippleffect owns Cow Island a beautiful 26-acre island in Casco Bay, and runs many of their youth and adult programs from this remote eco-campus.
Rippleffect believes that hands-on education in outdoor classrooms is fundamental to healthy development of citizens and communities. Students build confidence, develop critical leadership skills, strengthen relationships, and grow their appreciation for the outdoors through exploration of Cow Island, the waters of Casco Bay, and the wilderness of New England.
This item is a one week adventure at the Rippleffect Aucocisco day camp. The Aucocisco program offers the perfect opportunity for young adventurers to explore Casco Bay, learn the fundamentals of sea kayaking, experience Rippleffect's zip line and climbing wall, make new friends and learn about the coast. Rippleffect provides transportation to Cow Island from downtown Portland for program participants and all parents are welcome to join their child for a Parent Day on Thursdays of the program week.
The activities for each Aucocisco level, Zephyrs (8-10 years old), Ripples (10-12 years old), and Waves (12-14 years old) are carefully designed to match the development needs and skill progression appropriate for each age group. Each Aucocisco session is from Monday-Friday each week. Students should be dropped off at 7:30am and picked up at 5:00pm daily at the Casco Bay Lines ferry terminal on the Maine State Pier. All Rippleffect guide staff are Wilderness First Responder certified and trained sea kayak guides.
Students are responsible for bringing their lunch each day. A gear list will be provided upon registration. Rippleffect will provide all necessary kayaking equipment (including, but not limited to: kayak, PFD, spray skirt).
