Item Description

David La Puma, ornithologist and birdwatching guide, will lead your group (up to 5 people) on a full day birding adventure through the grasslands, marshes and pine forests of Portage, Wood and Adams Counties. This area hosts some of the most important nesting habitat for Wisconsin's threatened and endangered species including the Federally Endangered Kirtland's Warbler, the spectacular Greater Prairie Chicken, Upland Sandpiper, Red-headed Woodpecker as well as many more song birds, raptors, and wading birds. This trip will be primarily by car caravan with multiple stops to get out and watch birds. 

Item Special Note

Date: Saturday May 31st (rain date Sunday June 1st)

Time: Leave Madison at 5:00am; Return by 5:00pm

Attire: Comfortable clothes in layers. Mornings can be chilly but usually warm up quickly in early June. Hiking shoes or boots recommended as some ground may be soft. A hat, water bottle and snacks are recommended for throughout the day. Also bring a bagged lunch. We will make periodic stops on the way up and back for bathroom breaks and "refueling" (both our vehicles and our bodies).

Other things to bring: Top of the line Leica binoculars and spotting scopes will be provided to each participant to use during the day. Participants are free to bring their own optics if they'd like but are not required to

Additional Notes: Transportation and gas costs are not provided but carpooling and cost-sharing are recommended. David will be happy to help organize carpooling and cost-sharing with the winning bidders.
