About Village Baby:

Village Baby is a collaboration that grew out of a friendship and the desire to make a change in our lives. We opened in 2003, after leaving our intended careers – Deb, an attorney and Molly, a teacher. We knew that we wanted to do something that combined creativity, flexibility (particularly as our families grew) and allowed us to spend our days in a social, pleasant setting. Additionally, we wanted to contribute to the strength of the community through the creation of a viable, locally-owned, independent business that could subsequently support other community organizations. In Village Baby we have found all of this and much more! We seek out smaller, more unusual brands and local vendors – many of whom are also moms. We have gotten to know our many of our vendors and our customers as friends, and these relationships allow us to provide the best products and service possible.

While the store is only five years old, its seeds were planted 20 years ago when we met as high school freshman. Starting then, we collaborated well and always found plenty to laugh about. And as roommates for six years (in high school and then college), we knew our friendship was strong enough to go into business together. Being such close friends creates a familial feeling at the store – in fact, many of our customers think that we are sisters. Village Baby truly feels like family — Molly’s aunt and mother-in-law work here regularly, and often one of our children is here playing. We have a wall of pictures which is like an album of our young customers as they grow – we met them as babies and now they are in kindergarten! We have even expanded from size 6 to 10 to grow with them.

In Febuary 2008, Village Baby turned five years old! In these five years, we have learned a lot about running a business, and particularly about children’s clothing. As part of this anniversary celebration, we are excited to be opening our virtual store with a small selection of our favorite items. We hope that we can use our experience to help you find what you are looking for, either here on our website, or in the store.
