Item Description
The U.S. Post Office issues specialized commemorative for important cultural contribution that are uniquely American. In 1989 , the U.S. Post Office issued its first Jazz Fest commemorative "cachet" featuring Professor Longhair, and every year since a new cachet has been produced, each featuring a New Orleans original. The cachets are highly sought after, and the value as a collectible and framed piece for any home or office increases every year. 1991 Danny Barker: Danny Barker was a traditionalist and helped maintain the popularization of Dixieland. The National Endowment of the Arts named Danny Barker a Jazz Master in 1991. This honor is only bestowed on a selected few, and one has to be alive to receive the honor. This cachet features a banjo cancellation, Hot pink foil spelling out Jazz (an euphemism for "hot jazz" which is what Mr. Barker played), and gold foil for the Jazz Fest logo.
