Item Description
This sculpture is a replica statue of the Kansas Capitol Dome Sculpture. The sculpture was made by the artist, Dr. Bergen.
The sculpture is centered around the symbolism of "Ad Astra" and tied in with the history of Kansas:
The sculpture's foundation is made up of a Kansa Indian. The Kansa Indians were the original people of this area. The Indian is drawing his bow, symbolic of the energy of Kansans, and is pointing the arrow towards the stars in a symbolic motion of those determined to achieve their goals. The Indian is specifically pointing his arrow towards the North Star, which is symbolic of a stable government. The North Star is a symbolic position that remains constant and steady as it continues to guide the state of Kansas.
The bottom of the sculpture contains the words "Ad Astra" which ties in with the Kansas state motto: "Ad Astra per Aspera," to the stars through difficulties.
