Item Description

Bid now to share a detailed Arabic cooking lesson with Salma Abu Ayyash on a weekend evening or afternoon . She will bring all ingredients and spices needed to create your culinary masterpiece. This can take place in your kitchen or Salma's home kitchen. You will be working with Salma for approx. 4-5 hours during which time you will make enough for two people. You will prepare two appetizers, a soup and two main dishes with all of their accouterments, and a dessert. The meals can be frozen if you prefer to save them for the future.  Here are some suggestions:

Appetizers: Tabbouleh, fried tomatoes, bean dip (foul mudammas), fried eggplant salad, roasted zucchini with special yoghurt sauce.
Soup: Freekeh (a hearty soup of green roasted wheat and either meat balls or chicken), simple vegetable soup, lentil soup, chicken soup
Main dishes: mloukhieh (Green Mallow with chicken), Okra with meat,  green fava beans (seasonal), lamb chops, Maftoul with chicken, stuffed cabbage or grape leaves, fatteh with chicken, Mujaddarah
Dessert: Kanafeh or Hareesah

Salma can make 'almost' everything vegetarian and can discuss food allergies, HOWEVER, you can't say "I don't like garlic or onions "…

Salma is a Palestinian American, born in Jordan, who came to the US to further her education and ended up staying and making a new home for herself in Cambridge MA. She is currently on the faculty of Roxbury Community College, teaching Math and Engineering courses.

Salma is a founding member and former curator and PR representative of the Boston Palestine Film Festival for five years. She’s also on the advisory board of Women in Film & Video New England.

She is fluent in Arabic and English, proficient in French and dabbles in Italian. She recently has taken up Spanish as a new challenge, and has come to realize how much she enjoys languages.

As an actor she has been in several indie films and local theatre productions, most importantly BENGAL TIGER AT THE BAGHDAD ZOO with Company One.

Item Special Note

Date, place and menu must be determined 3 weeks prior to lesson.

No longer than a 30 minute trip from Cambridge for travel if you would like Salma to go to your kitchen.
