Item Description
Dog-Friendly Vacation Paradise!
One Week (Friday to Friday) in Summer 2014* on Spruce Island!
About Spruce Island
20 minutes from Burlington and a million miles away from it all! Accessible only by boat, Spruce Island has fragrant pine trees, rock ledges for jumping into the lake, a dock for sitting in the sun, hammocks for taking an afternoon nap, a clearing for a campfire, and a rustic one-bedroom camp house with a screened porch that overlooks the western side of the lake (you’ll see some great sunsets!). The camp house sleeps up to six “bunkhouse” style, and you can also pitch tents in various places around the island.
Spruce Island is completely private - it’s only about 1 acre and we own the whole thing, so you will have the entire place to yourself.
Dogs are welcome, but because of the rock ledges we don’t allow kids under 10.
During your stay on Spruce Island we will provide:
- A full kitchen with stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, cooking/grilling utensils, dishes and cutlery, etc
- A barbecue grill (there’s also a place for a campfire)
- 2 canoes, 2 adult lifejackets, 4 paddles for your use while you’re there
- All bedding and towels
- Toilet paper and paper towels
- Fresh bottled drinking water
You need to provide your own food, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, firewood, and recreational equipment (swimming gear, floats, tents, etc).
Spruce Island is a rustic camp - the perfect place to get away from it all. Part of the fun is living more simply and doing without some modern conveniences.
Facilities:
- There is no toilet on the island - only an outhouse.
- The tap water is not potable, but it is safe for bathing.
- There is electricity and hot running water. You’ll have to let the hot water heater warm up for a few hours before you use it the first time.
- There are no laundry facilities on the island (we don’t want to get detergent in the lake).
- There is no cable or internet.
- There is no landline at the island, but most cell phones get reception there. (If you wish, however, you can tell your boss that there’s no cell phone reception at all.)
- No emergency services can reach the island. In the case of injury or illness you will have to get to shore before you can get help.
Item Special Note
Summer 2014* June and July only; week subject to availability.
*Will book for August 2014 if August is preferred.
We provide you with a motorboat ride to and from the island with all your stuff at the beginning and end of the week. During your stay, you’ll have the use of a canoe to paddle in and out whenever you need to (about a 10-minute trip, each way). Of course, if you want to bring your own motorboat, that’s fine!
