This item sponsors the purchase of one (1) keyboard for a Music Pathways student.
BACKGROUND
Over a period of fourteen years, the CMD provided weekly music instruction to hundreds of children in foster care at several off-site locations in South Side and West Chicago neighborhoods. The curriculum included lessons in piano, violin, viola, cello, guitar, flute, clarinet and percussion, as well as performance opportunities. Due to an unanticipated loss of outside funding last year, the program could no longer continue serving students in the same capacity.
DEPAUL MUSIC PATHWAYS
To continue offering low-cost music lessons to children in foster care during the academic year 2013-2014, the CMD has drawn on a small reserve of internal funding. For this first year of DePaul Music Pathways, we enrolled 24 children who demonstrated a genuine interest in music, a commitment to their studies and excellent attendance. Music has become an important part of the lives of these children and their families. Each week students look forward to one-on-one lessons with young dedicated instructors who are passionate about teaching and sharing knowledge. Our teachers serve as role models who provide inspiration, encouragement and guidance to each and every child. The CMD and DePaul Development Office ask for your support in ensuring the sustainability of the program during the academic year 2014-2015.
