Item Description

Kala Ghaty is the Artistic Director of Kalamandir Art School in Fremont, CA.  She has an Art and Science degree from India and immense passion in teaching art to diverse groups of students including students with special needs.  You can visit the Kalamandir Art School online at http://Kalamandir.com.

Kala has taught various forms of art including the traditional Tanjore and Mysore art to several hundreds in the Bay Area.  Tanjore paintings are notable for their adornment in the form of semi-precious stones, while the symbolism-rich Mysore art is based on various scriptural and mythological texts and often features depictions of gods and goddesses.  Kala's violin illustrates two types of traditional Indian folk are: rangoli on the front, warli on the back.

Kala has showcased her art work and her students' art work in many places in Fremont, Milpitas, Sunnyvale and Pleasanton, and each March her students' art work is exhibited at the Main Library in Fremont.  She is active in the Fremont Cultural Arts Council, arranging art shows for students and encouraging them to appreciate and preserve art.
