Item Description
This is Matthew's donation to the Fling, and here is his description:
This bandsawn basswood jewelry box is 4" high X 9 1/2" wide X 1 5/8" thick with two velvet flocked drawers. Use this box to keep your jewelry or treasures in, or paper clips, or postage stamps, or whatever you like. You could even use it as a paperweight.
With its sinuous redwood drawer pulls, and its elegant, curvy shape, I think you'll enjoy just looking at it, as I have. And whatever you put in it, it will be a unique attention-getter and sure-fire conversation starter displayed on your desk or sitting on your shelf or coffee table. This box is finished with about 8 coats of tung oil and rubbed to a lustrous finish.
After a finish sanding down to 400 grit sandpaper, I apply many coats of tung oil, a non-toxic, non-petroleum, waterproof finish, rubbing it down with fine steel wool between coats. When everything is finished and dry, I glue on the drawer pulls, and treat them to a couple coats of Deft Danish Oil finish. Finally, I cover the bottom of each drawer with a brilliant royal blue flocking that feels like velvet but is actually rayon.
