Item Description

Made by Young Audiences' own roster artist, Kevin Martin, these steel drums are a blast. Not only are they beautiful--yours will come in a lively yellow and blue--you will also have a great time playing them. You can pick up the basics of the steel drums in days, playing along to songs you recognize. The steel drums aren't easy to master though; while you'll be able to start in just days, you can perfect your sound for the rest of your life, making the steel drums both accessible and endlessly enjoyable. In addition to this drum set, you will also receive one personal steel drum lesson from Kevin Martin to get you started on the right foot.

With its large tonal range covering the entire treble clef, the Double Seconds’ main role in the ensemble is to play melodies and solos. It can be used to play songs in any key. Our Double Seconds are fashioned after Ellie Mannette’s traditional Double Seconds pattern. Its tonal range is one and a half chromatic octaves starting on middle C. This note layout is based on a whole tone scale, with every other note on the opposite drum. This separates half tones and helps with note isolation and clarity of tone. Because of this symmetry players can to learn to play chords and scales using shapes and patterns instead of memorizing scales or the notes that make each chord. The notes on the double drums are: C C# D Eb E F F# G G# A Bb B C C# D Eb E F.The Double Seconds steel tongue drums are a set of two drums played as one instrument. Each drum has a 12 inch diameter and weighs 9 pounds. Learn more about Kevin Martin's Rockcreek Steel Drums at their website: Rockcreek Steel Drums.
