Item Description

This collection of four items feature the Barnegat Lighthouse as interpreted by Jon Fiorella: Driftwood Painting, Woodburned Art, and Two Woodburned Boxes.

Jon was born in Staten Island, New York and has been doing woodburnings since 1975.  He is self-trained in this art and has donated hundreds of pieces of his artwork to benefits & charities.  Jon is a retired science teacher who splits his time between Carmel, NY and Barnegat, NJ.  He enjoys photographing the local environment and turning those photographs into woodburnings.  This explains why “up north” his work consists of country scenes like old houses, barns and covered bridges.  At the shore he favors light houses, ships, docks and beach scenes.  Jon occasionally includes wildlife such as bird scenes.

The woodburnings are done with a professional tool.  The pictures show a fine detail because they are actually many individual burn marks.  Jon also tries to incorporate the natural grain pattern of the wood into his pictures.  A typical 8” X 10” plaque may take up to 5 hours depending on the amount of detail required.  He has also done much larger framed pieces that required dozens of hours to complete.
