Item Description
Beautifully framed and in very good condition: 28 ½’ wide by 33 ½” high: Original HARPER'S WEEKLY Article (New York), dated October 25, 1890, double page "FOOT-BALL AT TUXEDO (NY)." Illustrated by C.S. Reinhart.
The accompanying 1 1/2 column-long article "THE SEASON OF FOOT-BALL" reads "The residents of Tuxedo were fortunate on Saturday, October 11th, in seeing one of the best games of foot-ball thus far this season. The contesting elevens were from Princeton and the Orange Athletic Club, and the struggle lasted from three o'clock in the afternoon until nearly five, without either side being able to gain a point. The prize was a silver cup, valued at $100, and when it was proposed to toss up a coin to decide upon the winner, objection was made, and Orange refused to play another half-hour, evidently thinking that it had honor enough in playing a tie game with the college boys..."
