Item Description

Tessa Thornberry is a San Francisco Bay Area native whose art centers around stories and the beings and symbols that inhabit them, whether allegorical, mythological, or everyday.  She has a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from UC Davis, where she studied painting and sculpture.  She spent a semester studying art in Florence, Italy, which encouraged her to pursue her love of both travel and classical art.  After some traveling and studying in various diverse fields - from Comic Book Art at both Artamus Studios in North Carolina and the Academy of Art College in San Francisco to Maquette Sculpture in Glendale, California - she has settled in Berkeley.  She spends a lot of her time attending figure drawing sessions, using whatever is handy, from professionally prepared surfaces to maps, recycled materials and thrift store canvases.  She has been known to paint animal heads on some of her figure drawings, because it is both entertaining and it adds a layer of symbolism that keeps things interesting.  You can find her online at http://tessaberry.fiver.net.
