About This Artist: John M. Williams specializes in creating portrait collages of historical figures with a special interest in the Civil War. Using hundreds of small pieces of cut paper, he pieces together a likeness of his subject revealing a person's character as well as his or her historical significance. John's AS inhibits his ability to communicate verbally, yet enhances his visual learning skills, which makes creating collages a great outlet for him to channel his emotions.
About the AANE Artist's Collaborative: The AANE Artist's Collaborative consists of artists with Asperger Syndrome (AS) and related autism spectrum profiles. The collaborative creates an amazing opportunity for these artists to showcase and sell their work on a regular basis throughout the year. The Artist's Collaborative invites people to not only appreciate the mind-blowing artistic abilities of our members, but to also take advantage of the strikingly unique chance to see the world through their artwork, and therefore their eyes. Adults with AS often struggle with an inhibited ability to communicate verbally, but through their artwork, our artists are tapping into their rare, ingrained ability to communicate visually.
