Item Description
About This Piece: This original abstract acrylic painting was done on canvas and has been generously donated by the artist, Karen Lean Boyd, a member of the AANE Artist's Collaborative. When talking about the painting Karen was quoted saying, "I always have an experience looking at this painting as I hope the viewer does." The painting alone measures 12" wide by 16" tall. The included frame expands the total dimensions to 18.5" W x 22.5" H.
About This Artist: Karen Lean Boyd was recognized for her artistic ability from a very early age. Dissimilarly, she wasn't diagnosed with AS until she was 32-years-old. She works mainly with acrylics but also explores other media including pastel, pencil, and computer graphics tablet. She describes her process as an intuitive one, "I paint from a deep meditative place where I have no idea what a painting will look like when I start it. So paintings can take hours or years to be completed."
About the AANE Artist's Collaborative: The AANE Artist's Collaborative consists of artists with Asperger Syndrome (AS) and related autism spectrum profiles. The collaborative creates an amazing opportunity for these artists to showcase and sell their work on a regular basis throughout the year. The Artist's Collaborative invites people to not only appreciate the mind-blowing artistic abilities of our members, but to also take advantage of the strikingly unique chance to see the world through their artwork, and therefore their eyes. Adults with AS often struggle with an inhibited ability to communicate verbally, but through their artwork, our artists are tapping into their rare, ingrained ability to communicate visually.
