Item Description

KPCC’s very own Hettie Lynne Hurtes will prepare a vegan dinner (no meat, no dairy) for you and a guest at her lovely home in Los Angeles.

But wait! There’s more - much more! Your special dinner guests for the evening will be George Takei and his husband, Brad Takei. Yes – THAT George. Most famous for his founding role as Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the Starship Enterprise in the iconic TV series Star Trek, Mr Takei is also an accomplished author, voice-over talent, social activist, and social media mega-power.

Some facts about Mr. Takei that will facilitate interesting dinner conversation:

  • To Be Takei, a Jennifer M. Kroot documentary on his life and career recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2014 and will have a theatrical release in Summer 2014.
  • He and Tony Award winner Lea Salonga are developing Allegiance, an epic story of love, family, and heroism during the Japanese American Internment. Allegiance is scheduled to open on Broadway this year.
  • Asteroid 7307 Takei, located between Mars and Jupiter, was named in George's honor in appreciation for his social work and community activism.

A Japanese American who, from age 4 – 8, was forced into U.S. Internment Camps during World War II, Mr. Takei is an outspoken supporter of human rights. He was the spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign “Coming Out Project”, was appointed to the Japan - U.S. Friendship Commission by President Bill Clinton, and received a special decoration by His Majesty, Emperor Akihito for his contributions to U.S. – Japanese relations.

You and your lucky guest will have an unforgettable experience with George. Hettie, and their lovely spouses. It promises to be a special evening filled with interesting and inspiring conversation, healthy and delicious food, and of course, wine!

This is not to be missed.
