Item Description
Join deCordova's resident artist, Bruce Barry for a private ceramics workshop for your own group. This is the perfect opportunity to work with clay and create a unique piece with a partner or by yourself. All levels are welcome and no previous ceramics experience is necessary. (Must be 21 or older.)
The workshop includes over 1.5 hours of instruction and assistance in building and decorating a unique gift. Firing, tools, and materials will be provided. Wine and refreshments will be served.
Although clay won’t permanently stain garments, participants are encouraged to bring a change of clothes or wear protective garments if dinner arrangements are planned before or after the workshop.
DeCordova's resident artist Bruce Barry is a studio arts graduate from Bates College with advanced coursework in ceramics, etching, drawing, and painting. Barry’s teaching style encourages individual experimentation and personal growth and exposes students to contemporary art and ceramics practice. His work consists of organic, vessel-like ceramic pieces with painted-on writings resembling journal entries. A finalist for the Massachusetts Cultural Council Crafts Grant in 2007, Barry has taught at deCordova since 1997. Bruce Barry is represented by Clark Gallery, Lincoln, MA and Elaine Baker Gallery, Boca Raton, FL. Barry will be featured in the upcoming deCordova exhibition Language as Inspiration: Works from deCordova's Collection.
Ceramics Workshop is for up to twenty (20) people, or ten (10) couples. Date to be set at a mutually convenient time for all parties involved in Fall 2014.
