Item Description
High in the Rincon Mountain backcountry of Saguaro National Park lies the historic Manning Cabin & Camp. At 8,000 feet in elevation, the cabin was built as a summer home for Levi Manning (Mayor of Tucson from 1895-1907). This item is a rare opportunity for four people to join a Saguaro National Park Ranger for a summer, or early fall, weekend expedition to Manning Camp. You'll be housed for two nights in the park's rustic seasonal tent/cabins (usually available to park staff and researchers only), and you'll have all your food and other necessities provided or packed-up by mule (although weight limits will apply). Each participant will need to be physically fit -- as the 10-mile hike to the cabin is strenuous -- but the views, and the experience, will be well worth it! Day One will be your Ranger-guided hike up to Manning Camp, followed by a site-orientation by the Manning Ranger upon your arrival. Day Two will be a full day for the group to explore this Sky Island at your leisure. Day Three will be the return hike down the mountain, and back to saguaros and civilization. This package for four people includes two nights rustic accommodations at Manning Camp, two breakfasts and two dinners for each participant, as well as potable water, solar showers, and toilets available at the Camp. Additional food and beverages for the group, as well as your own sleeping bags, can be packed-up by mule -- so all you'll need to carry on your hike will be your water and trail snacks. This package will be available roughly June 1st through mid-to-late September, 2014; scheduling of the exact dates must be completed at least one month in advance; availability may be limited by staff availability and fire conditions.
