Item Description
A graduate of MIT and Stanford, Nicole Freedman first began cycling in 1994 with the Stanford team. In her 13 years racing, Nicole saw more than 50 professional wins, including two US national championships, multiple international victories and after winning the US Olympic Road Race Trials in Jackson, Mississippi, earned an automatic spot on the 2000 US Olympic team in Sydney, Australia. The Jewish Hall of Fame also honored Nicole in 2001 for her outstanding spirit, motivation, and achievements. In 2007, Mayor Thomas Menino appointed Nicole director of the “Boston Bikes” initiative. Under her leadership, Boston, ranked one of the worst cycling cities, quickly rose to one of the best with 50 miles of new bike lanes, 850 additional bike racks, and 1,000 bikes donated to low income residents. The program is part of Mayor Menino’s vision for healthy, sustainable communities and neighborhoods. Nicole works to improve infrastructure for urban cycling with the future goal of establishing cycling as a mainstream activity. With such a fascinating background and tons of cycling knowledge, Nicole will without a doubt make an extremely interesting biking partner.
