Item Description
Join deCordova Curator Dina Deitsch on a trip to visit two of the most important site-specific art sites in America; Marfa TX, home to Donald Judd's Chinati Foundation, and The Lightning Field, a site-specific installation in the remote New Mexico desert by seminal land artist Walter de Maria.
You'll stay overnight in a private cabin owned by the Dia Foundation, which oversees the preservation of The Lightning Field and is not accessible to the general public. You'll walk among hundreds of vertical polished steel rods, perfectly arranged on a 1 mile x 1 kilometer grid. Who knows... you may witness lightning strike if you're lucky!
In Marfa you'll enjoy a multi-day visit to this hipster art town, with a private tour of Judd's artworks, installations, and facilities by Chinati's Director. You'll stay at the same hotel James Dean and Joan Crawford stayed in during the filming of the movie Giant and enjoy a Lone-star appropriate selection of top-notch restaurants, road food, bbq, and surprises along the way.
You'll also visit Santa Fe to tour the galleries, the Georgia O’Keefe Museum, and contemporary art museum SiteSantaFe’s international biennial, Unsettled Landscapes.
Winning bid includes 5 days/4 nights of first-class accommodations, all local travel, and food. Trip to be scheduled on a date of mutual convenience Summer or Fall 2014. To allow you to make travel plans as you may prefer, airfare is the responsibility of the winner.
The winning bidder may add up to two additional travelers for 40% of the winning bid per person.
