CARLOS SANTANA ALBUM: Carlos Santana is Mexican American musician who became well known throughout the world in the late 60’s. His band, Santana, was the first band that mixed his Latin American roots with rock and roll. The band used instruments such as timbales and congas that gave their music Latin and African rhythms against the groups melodic, blue based guitar lines. In the late 90s Santana experienced a rebirth of popularity in the mainstream music culture which eventually led to Rolling Stone magazines ranking as number 20 on their list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of all time. Santana has received numerous awards throughout his career which include ten Grammies and three Latin Grammy Awards. In 2000, his album Supernatural tied Michael Jackson’s record for the most Grammy Awards in a year with a total of eight.
