Item Description

Peruvian woven textile belt made of llama wool, collected by Prescience Trust Funds in 2008 from a weaver from the qeswa community in Parque de la Papa (Potato Park) in the Andes at 14,000 feet above sea level.

Features two different designs, depending on which side is displayed.  1 inch wide, 48 inches long, 40 inches of beading.

The Potato Park is an Indigenous Biocultural Heritage Area (IBCHA).  The Potato Park focuses on protecting and preserving the critical role and interdependency of indigenous biocultural heritage (IBCH) for local righs, livelihoods, conservation and sustainable use of agrobiodiversity.  The Park is located in an area known as a microcenter of origin and diversity of potatoes, one of the world's major food crops which has been protected for centuries by the deeply rooted local food systems of Quechua peoples.
