Item Description
- Six lessons. (I will add more if required to finish a project)
- The class is intended for a 13 to 17 year old student, female or male, with parent or guardian present.
- Subject will be a male Cardinal.
- Cardinal will be finished in a “Smoothie or Primitive style”.
- The finished carving will be suitable for display in your home.
- The bird will be carved from Bass Wood provided by the instructor.
- Carving will be accomplished with hand tools.
- Tools including a knife, strop, wood, paints brushes etc will be supplied by the instructor.
- Bass wood supplied by the instructor.
- The Student will learn about pattern making, carving techniques, painting skills, finishing and display concepts.
- Safe use of the carving equipment will be taught.
- Classes will take place at the Instructors Home Studio, in Greece N.Y.
- Reference materials will be provided.
- Historical origins of the art form discussed during classes.
- A truly American art form, it is traced back to the early decoy carvers, having its roots in Straw Decoys attributed to Native Americans.
- Schedule to be arraigned with the instructor and is flexible with evenings and weekends possible.
Al Adaskin has been carving for over 20 years. He has attended many Seminars and workshops in the US and Canada. As well as organizing workshops in Rochester. Al has been teaching carving both in group classes in Community Ed. Programs and on a private basisfor about 18 years. His carvings are in collections throughout the US and Canada. They also have been awarded ribbons from the St. Lawrence to Florida in Bird Carving Competitions.
