Item Description

Bid on this once in a lifetime collaborative handwork piece over 7 months in the making by WSP Eigth Grade.  The colors chosen shine bright, cheerful and lively, as does the 8th grade class.

Each block expresses the students personality through choice of colors, pattern and layout of the design.  Only accurately sewn blocks can be incorporated into a quilt. Many blocks were done over and over, until they had the desired size, requiring great will and determination by the students.  Each student designed and pieced together by hand and machine sewing one or two 9x9 inch blocks, consisting of 9, 3x3 inch squares.

There are 6 rows with 4,  9x9 inch squares and the border is made from bright orange fabric with a swirly pattern.  The backing of the quilt is a bright yellow fabric with a geometric flower pattern.

The quilt consists of three layers: quilt top, batting, backing and was joined together through machine quilting with a modern leave design, by Jodi from, The Granary in Sunnyvale. The final touches were hand stitch and binded by Kerstin Pintus.

Absentee bidding available to WSP Families not able to attend the live event.  Please email Sandy Welch with your maximum bid by noon on April 25, 2014.

Item Special Note

Quilt measures 84"x64"

The quilt process started since since September.

Machine sewing is introduced in 8th grade class while they learn about the industrial revolutions in their main lesson block.

The first block of the 8th grade class was sewing and it was their first project on the sewing machine. Sewing teaches the students how to sew straight lines with perfect seam allowance.
