About Atwood Cafe in the Heart of Downtown Chicago
There couldn't be a more ideal location for Atwood Café in all of Chicago. A true Loop restaurant, Atwood Café is across the street from the brilliant new BLOCK 37, three blocks from Millennium Park, and within easy walking distance of Chicago's illustrious theaters (Chicago Theatre, Bank of America Theatre, Cadillac Palace Theatre and Ford Center for the Performing Arts, to name a few), not to mention City Hall and the Magnificent Mile.
Atwood Café is at the Heart of it All
Location aside, perhaps even greater significance is the building that houses the restaurant. Atwood Cafe and Hotel Burnham proudly reside in the Reliance Building, a structure that essentially signaled a turn in American architecture. Built in 1895, its radical steel and glass design set the precedent for the modern skyscraper, ushering in a new era in architectural design that has since shaped the skylines of cities around the globe.
Atwood Café is a devoted yet contemporary remodel in tribute to the building's original spirit. Soaring 18-foot windows look out over both State and Washington streets, while the interior assumes the Reliance's rich character. Elegant reds, warm golds, bold blacks and cobalts set the backdrop for the many nuanced Art Deco details. Persian rugs give the tongue-and-groove hardwood floors a graceful elan, while the faint diamond patterns etched into sconces and chandeliers and the gold trim touches usher you back to Chicago's chic past.
