Item Description
Rima Goodman paints contemporary mythology. She combines a painterliness learned from Matisse and Renaissance structure --when she wants -- or fabulous graphics -- when she wants -- or a dreamy surrealism -- as always when she wants. In short, she has mastered her craft. Goodman chooses her motifs from popular imagery, favorite paintings, dimly remembered mosaics, whatever, giving her paintings a lingering feeling that we've been there, somehow seen something like this before. But we can't quite remember. This is a painter who takes us on a disquieting, exhilarating journey. Exactly like our times. Rima Goodman is our best contemporary mythologist. - John T. Spike, August 2001
Rima Goodman's pieces have been featured exhibitions at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Art Source L.A., Swope Gallery, Art Space, and the Biennale Internazionale dell'Arte Contemporanea in Florence Italy. Her work is part of the private collections of Wolfgang Puck, Alan Rothenberg, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Riley, and Simona Bottero and Claudio Mogliotti, among others.
The documentary about her, Rima Goodman: A Life In Art (Ishtar Films 2009) is, "A marvelously compelling and riveting documentary: honest, totally telling the truth! In twenty minutes I learned so much of this most remarkable woman... and in the most direct fashion. Her art, her life - both so very beautiful." -- Albert Maysles
