Item Description

A dewar is a big, insulated container that is used to keep liquid nitrogen below -320 degrees F. Dewers, and the liquid nitrogen they contain, play a critical role in The Discovery Museums' Traveling Science Workshops, which serves more than 26,000 kids a year through in-classroom, hands-on science presentations.  Dewars have a life span, and ours are nearing the end of theirs.

Liquid nitrogen is used in our Physical Changes of Matter program -- the most popular one, booked by more than 1/3 of our TSW customers, because it involves this material that is not readily accessible to school teachers.

Liquid nitrogen is nitrogen that is cool enough to exist in liquid form -- it can freeze a banana hard enough to hammer in a nail, and make a chrysanthemum solid enough to shatter! It helps show the different states of matter to kids in a dramatic, exciting way!
