Item Description

Come for a sail, and explore New York's harbor aboard the privately-owned traditional schooner DragonFly. Everyone gets a chance to steer the schooner, and to help with sails if you wish. You will be in good hands, as your host has sailed across the Atlantic twice, as well as from California to Tahiti. Your four-hour sail will begin and end at a private yacht club on City Island, a quaint nautical haven located off the coast of the Bronx(!) and easily reached by public transportation or car. Your voyage may include (depending on wind, weather, and tidal currents) sailing right under one of NYC's great bridges, or past such fascinating spots as NYC's Potter's Field on Hart Island, where more than 800,000 impoverished or unclaimed New Yorkers have been buried since 1869; or the actual green light that so inspired the title character in F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby. Refreshments including fruit & cheese will be provided, along with a sailor's ration of very fine rum once we are back at anchor. Limited to 1-4 guests, 21 and over, scheduled by arrangement. Painting, drawing, photography, music welcome.
