Item Description
JOHNNY ALTERMAN (1942-2012) Born in Miami, John Alterman attended Miami High (1960), Wharton (1964), and received his J.D. from the University of Miami (1969.) His interest in photography began in the 70s, and after attending the Penland School of Crafts, he moved to San Francisco to earn a Masters degree in Fine Arts. Mr. Alterman later was a teaching assistant for Ansel Adams Yosemite Workshop in 1980 where the two artists exchanged ideas and works. Mr. Adams was particularly taken with the Vertical Walkways prints, considered Alterman's most successful series. Mr. Alterman's photographs have been exhibited in many galleries and published in several journals. His work can also be found in collections at the BankAmerica World Headquarters, Wells Fargo Bank, Lowe Art Museum, Miami Art Museum, Princeton University Art Museum, Houston's Museum of Fine Arts and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among others.
