The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum was established by Isabella Stewart Gardner, one of the foremost female patrons of the arts in Boston. With her passing, she outlined stipulations that the permanent collection not be significantly altered. In 1990, the museum was involved in the largest art heist in museum history, where to this day thirteen works of art collectively worth $300 million are still missing.

Admission costs for 6 people included. Tours are scheduled on most weekdays and Saturdays at pre-set time slots: 11:15, 12:30, 1:45, and 3:15, or on Thursday evenings. Please note that the museum is closed on Tuesdays.
