Item Description

"Often I see or read something and say to myself, 'I have to paint that.' I don’t always know why, but a force in me prevails — I paint." "Fields of Summer" represents one such moment in artist Dottie Oatman's life and the watercolor that resulted is now available to Shambhala Sun auction bidders.

Ms. Oatman says of "Fields of Summer" that it was painted on location at her friends' flower and herb farm just outside Boulder.  The farm was destroyed during the 2013 flood but is now up and running again.

Dottie Oatman grew up in Kansas City and loved art making from the very beginning, creating her own greeting card company at age eight. She took art classes at Colorado College and, following college, went to graduate school to study art therapy at George Washington University. It was there that she started painting with Bernie Levy and got hooked. She's been exploring watercolor painting ever since.

She's also been teaching painting classes in Boulder since 2001, and leading painting travel trips to Mexico, Spain and Greece since 2007. Ms. Oatman is represented by Mary Williams Fine Art in Boulder, Colorado.
