Item Description

This Wood Duck is hand-carved and oil painted by Clarence Fennimore.  It is hollow-cedar and a Delware River style decorative decoy on a wooden base.

Carver

Growing up in Bordentown, N.J. Clarence Fennimore was influenced by his uncle, Harry Fennimore (1886 – 1970) who lived with the Fennimore family.  Harry was a life long carver of Delaware River style decoys and is well known to decoy carvers and collectors.

An active member of the New Jersey Decoy Collectors Association, Clarence Fennimore has collected decoys since he was a teenager.An award winning carver, Clarence Fennimore was the New Jersey Decoy Collectors Association’s ‘Carver of the Year’ for their 2002 Annual Show and his pintail was the featured decoy for the 2003 New Jersey Duck Stamp.

Clarence is a regular demonstrator at the Tuckerton Seaport.  He was also selected to represent New Jersey carving traditions at the 2004 Smithsonian Festival where he demonstrated his carving skills daily for a week at the Washington, D.C. Mall.

Clarence has also been featured in numerous magazines and is one of the carvers in the book – “Sixty Living and Outstanding North American Carvers” by Loy S. Harrell, Jr.

The New Jersey Decoy Collectors Association elected Clarence to the Carvers Hall of Fame in 2012.
