Item Description
Kimberly Poppe says "There is nothing to think about in my photographs. They are the opposite of conceptual. I hope that they give people¿s minds the space to rest, even if just for a moment."
The successful bidder for this item will be able to choose the print of their choice from Kimberly Poppe's Eventide Collection, soon to be included in the Smithsonian's online store.
Eventide (noun, archaic literary: the end of the day; evening) contains images of places where tides - oceans and salt lakes - meet that time of day known as dusk or twilight. Taken mainly in Australia where Ms. Poppe spends time each year, there is a special open and spacious quality of the land, sea and sky. The light is also incredibly clear and bright. Unobstructed. The images combine earth, water, air, and fire. They are created by using intentional camera movement and a slow shutter speed. It is the time of day, the light, and the weather that creates the differences in the floating bands of color. They are also inspired by her long standing obsession with Mark Rothko¿s paintings and the meditative quality of his work.
Kimberly Poppe was born in the United States and studied English and the Arts at Wesleyan University. She has lived in Europe for the last 15 years. A student of Tibetan Buddhism as well as a photographer, her work has been greatly influenced and inspired by 'The Practice of Contemplative Photography' by Andy Karr and Michael Wood.
Dimensions: up to 20"w. x 30"l.
Ms. Poppe's work can also be viewed and purchased at Ugallery and Saatchi Art. And get ready for 2015 by purchasing one of her "Eventide" calendars featuring images from this collection.
