Item Description

Let this White Tara thangka grace your shrine or home.

A thangka, explains the Tibetan Spirit website, is a silk painting usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala on embroidery. A thangka is not flat like a painting but rather is a multi-tiered creation, typically consisting of three layers. The underlying layer is a tapestry or fabric, which serves as the background for the thangka. Mounted on the fabric is the picture panel, which is painted or embroidered. Then a cover usually made of silk hangs over the front to protect the picture.

For the past fifteen years, Tibetan Spirit has been owned and operated by Dharma practitioners, offering affordable and more importantly, quality Dharma supplies to practitioners and communities that do not have easy access to such items in their neighborhood.

At Tibetan Spirit, we have always chosen to support small, traditional and often family-based artisans in Nepal and India, even as increasing pressure from rapid globalization is quickly eroding the sustainability of such businesses. With constant support, patience and goodwill from practitioners in the US and abroad, Tibetan Spirit has been able to stay in business while keeping our prices low and operating based on Dharma principles.

Starting last October, 100% of the profits of Tibetan Spirit go to supporting Dharma projects of Urban Dharma, North Carolina, a new, innovative, Dharma center in Asheville, NC.
