Item Description
FOUR Adults or Children age 6-12 (all children under 6 are free) at one of the following shows: Friday, 9/12/14 at 5pm, Saturday 9/13/14 at 2pm, or Sunday 9/14/14 at 2pm.
The Herrmann family, breeders and trainers of the famed Lipizzan horse for over three hundred years, demonstrate the highest levels of horsemanship in three shows. The stallions of the Herrmann line are among the last horses capable of executing the "Airs Above the Ground" maneuvers. These dramatic leaps and plunges were developed as aggressive battle maneuvers in the sixteenth century, and are now among the most beautiful displays of equine grace and strength. The shows run for ninety minutes. Snacks and souvenirs are available.
Please bring your own seating and bug spray.

Cogswell's Grant was the summer home of Bertram K. and Nina Fletcher Little, preeminent collectors of American decorative arts in the mid 20th century. Through her research and innumerable publications, Mrs. Little charted new areas of American folk art such as decorative painting, floor coverings, boxes, and New England pottery. In 1937, the Littles purchased this 18th-century farmhouse overlooking the Essex River as a family retreat and place to entertain. They restored it carefully, trying to preserve original 18th-century finishes and carefully documenting their work. Their collection was arranged for visual delight rather than historical accuracy, and the result is rich in atmosphere and crowded with collections of things -- portraits, redware, painted furniture, hooked rugs, weather vanes, and decoys -- that have since come to define the country look.
