Item Description
Carole Leslie's "What Colour Is Your Buddha?" was painted while she was looking at a "beautiful, silky black stone Buddha statue." The question arose naturally. She has another painting entitled "What if the Buddha Was a Woman?", another question for pondering rather than answering. She sees these questions as opportunities to liberate us from habitual thinking and wake us up.
Carole Leslie says that generally speaking it is an inclination toward simplicity that pushes her to try and integrate her practice and work, to paint Buddhas, to observe her process as she works. She gravitates toward mixed media, integrating script and words with images and colour.
