Have you always wanted to bake a great pie but were afraid to try? Does making a pie crust intimidate you? Then spend a day with Mary Beams, “The Pie Lady” from Pie Place Cafe in Grand Marais, MN. Here is a class that demystifies pie baking, and builds your confidence to create a perfect pie. We will practice techniques for producing tasty crusts, the proper balance of fruit and filling, decorative techniques and when and how to use them, baking strategies, and storing and presenting your masterpiece. An examination of the building blocks of pie-making should provide you with the concepts to create your own pies from scratch, without elaborate recipes.
We will discuss alternative crusts and fillings as well as where to find recipes and guidance, so you’ll never be more than a hand’s-reach away from making the perfect hand-made pie. Your experience includes a copy of the new Pie Place Café Cookbook, which features many of our customers’ favorite pies. At the end of our day, you’ll take home a pie of your own.
