Item Description

A rare opportunity to own an original John Lennon piece by the late and renowned artist Denny Dent.   In May of 1999, Mr. Dent painted this piece in 20 minutes for the PBS 11th Hour television production at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
With three brushes in each hand, Denny painted portraits on six-foot canvas in the time it takes to play a few carefully selected pieces of music. Whether painting Jimmy Hendrix, General Colin Powell, Jack Nicklaus or Martin Luther King, Jr., the power and integrity was always the same. Audiences, ranging in size from hundreds to hundreds of thousands, have been witnesses to a performance that is an exciting blend of art, dance, and music. Denny has been described as the world's only "rock and roll painter". This title refers to his original repertoire which featured Denny's renderings of music's greatest acts including:  Jimi Hendrix, Elton John, Garth Brooks, Mick Jagger, Billy Joel, Frank Sinatra, and Tina Turner, to name a few.
The diversity of his performances have included painting Beethoven with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, painting John Paul II at the World Youth Day in Denver and a painting of Martin Luther King, Jr. which was presented to the family of the civil rights leader for hanging in the King library.  In addition to being a major part of the NHL All Star Game, he was on hand to commemorate Colorado Avalanche player Patrick Roy during his 300th career win.  Denny has also immortalized Jack Nicklaus, John Elway, Jeff Gordon, and Dale Earnhardt.  One of his most famous performances was at the Woodstock '94 concert. A painting that Dent did of Albert Einstein hangs in the Lecture Halls building at St Louis Community College's Meramec camp
This piece is 70”x54” Acrylic on black canvas paper. Unframed.  Includes his famous “hand print” signature in paint and Certificate of Authenticity.  Mr. Dent passed away in March of 2004.
