“When I chose the palette for this piece, I didn't really have a pre-conceived idea of where I would be going with it, only that I was drawn to the fiery reds, coppers, burnt gold, and earthy sandstone. I began to play with the contrasting textures and colors, and then I discovered her. When I placed that peacefully determined ceramic face and that wild, on-fire, crazy red hair, I realized I was making a statement about being female.

Everything about this piece seems to sum up what it means to be a woman. The fierceness of emotion, from love to protection to rage, the fluidity and the brokenness, the stuff of earth and the stuff forged in fire, gentle flowing lines to jagged stone, every element present speaks to the female experience. May she bring you solace, wisdom, and joy.”

About the Artist:

I have been making art my whole life. My interests began with drawing as a child, and then grew to learning everything I could about photography as a young adult. When I discovered mosaics about a decade ago, I became obsessed, and have never looked back.  My desire is to engage the viewer's senses, to awaken them to a love of texture and light and to nature, which feeds my soul.
