Item Description

Item: Mosaic wall plate

Size: D 9-3/4 inch,  D 25cm

Tesserae: Glass tiles, gems, and stained glass, mirror, handmade center charm from Mexico, Italian millefiori, and beaded chain on metal plate

“This piece is another representing my love of Mexican culture, art, and aesthetic. The centerpiece is a handmade medallion from Mexico, where I travel once a year and hunt for local treasures (and "trash"!) to put into my mosaic artwork. When I found the plate, it immediately made me think of the wonderful colored garlands of Mexico, papeles de picado, with their lacy cutouts and bright colors, and I knew it would be the perfect backdrop for a mosaic celebrating that form of folk art.”
