Item Description

2012 Sauvignon Blanc from Grey Stack Cellars (one bottle). This wine is no longer made. Grey Stack Cellars from Bennett Valley was truly a special, cult wine producer. Founded in 2004, Grey Stack produced micro-productions (between 75-400 cases) of extremely allocated, decadent wines. We were never able to get enough of any of their wines to meet the demand. Grey Stack's owner Peter Young came from high-tech (his father is John Young, former Hewlett Packard CEO for many years). Grey Stack's winemaker was Patrick Sullivan, who was previously the winemaker of Rudd, Paul Hobbs, Lewis Cellars, Peter Michael and is now currently at Spring Mountain Vineyard. Their Sauvignon Blanc was one of their most sought-after wines. The newest 2012 release is only a 400 case production. It is bottled unfiltered and unfined, and is incredibly rich and luscious. The clarity of the various fleshy citrus notes feels like you are tasting in high definition. This is a serious rival to the Spottswoode, Merry Edwards and Rudd Sauvignon Blancs. Winery Notes: Renegade wines with unrestrained flavor-that's what you'll find behind the traditional rock walls of our vineyards. Grey Stack Cellars is hidden away in the Bennett Valley AVA (Sonoma County), one of the newest and smallest AVA's in the U.S. Vineyards and farming are truly the heart of Grey Stack Cellars and behind the traditional rock walls that surround our vineyards lies the secret to creating our wines: the cool marine climate and volcanic soils that can only be found in the microclimates of Bennett Valley. Grey Stack leaves no stone unturned in the quest for uncompromising flavor. Tasting Notes: Crisp and refreshing, this Sauvignon Blanc's citrus driven flavor profile is more traditional than our Rosemary's Block. Lots of ripe, bright lemon (like a good lemon popsicle), and brisk natural acidity. • Varietal Composition: 50% Bennett Valley, 50% Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc • Barrel Aging: 5 months in neutral oak • Alcohol Content: 14.6% • Production: 425 cases
