Wall of Heroes
Item Description
Marcus Luttrell is a retired, decorated Navy SEAL and author. His 2007 #1 New York Times best-selling book, "Lone Survivor," tells the harrowing story of four Navy SEALs who journeyed into the mountainous border of Afghanistan and Pakistan on Operation Redwing. An unparalleled motivational story of survival, the book is also a moving tribute to the friends and teammates who did not make it off the mountain. He holds their lives up as examples of the guiding philosophy of the SEALs: I will never quit. I persevere and thrive on adversity. My Nation expects me to be physically harder and mentally stronger than my enemies. If knocked down, I will get back up, every time.
About the Artist: Jessica Magee is inspired by the movement of nature. Her artwork takes water currents, the geometry of pebbles and the angles of leaves and branches, and brings them to life in her artwork. With the use of acrylic paint and marker, she allows the composition to create itself to determine the outcome.
Description of the Mask: The heroic story of Marcus Luttrell inspired this mask. The deconstructed and torn American Flag shows the patriotism and hope that the military instills, and also the sadness and broken spirit that sometimes accompanies these soldiers in the brutal nature of war and service.
