Chenrezig Institute is a Buddhist retreat and study centre nestled in the hills of the Sunshine Coast (100km north from Brisbane), Queensland, Australia. Set in 160 acres of spectacular rainforest there are many different aspects to the property including a large Gompa (temple), Garden of Enlightenment, café, library, dharma shop and art studio. Established in 1974, the Institute was among the first Tibetan Buddhist centres in the West and remains one of the largest. It is a registered charitable organisation affiliated with the FPMT (Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition).
Chenrezig Institute has a range of accommodation options to support study, meditation and reflection. Successful bidders will claim a space in one of the private single rooms. All accommodation is basic but comfortable and beautifully quiet, offering easy access to the Gompa and café.
The Institute is home to a resident Tibetan teacher, a large number of nuns and monks, and a thriving community of students, volunteers and guests. A range of Buddhist and secular programmes are offered on a regular basis. Many guests choose to stay when the programme of events fits their interests.
